What do Environmental engineers do?

Environmental engineering covers a wide range of disciples: Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, Sustainable Energy, Building Services, Controls, Lighting and Acoustics. Environmental engineers work in many different and exciting workplaces - not only in the expected construction industries, but also in a wide variety of other building-based industries such as Renewable Energy Plant, Schools, Hospitals, Theatres, Supermarkets, Underground system etc. And because SBU-trained Environmental  engineers have an industrial wide respect in the UK, as the National College began the engineering discipline of building services in the 1950s, so your boss might have studied with us!

You could end up working for a multi-national in far flung location or run your own consultancy. For the academically-minded there are many opportunities in research and development for environmental engineers (many of our best graduates go on to gain higher degrees). Whatever your interest, an SBU Building Services, Sustainable Energy or Acoustics degree will be an excellent start to a rewarding career.
