SCC GRADE 4
SUPERVISOR
This award is aimed at older, competent and responsible cadets,
working under the supervision of an SCC Grade 3 Supervisors/BCU
Coach. Cadets who have achieved this award are able to help out with
Unit canoe and kayak training.
The requirements for the award are:
-
Be at least a Leading Cadet/Cadet Corporal or 15 years of age.
-
Hold the BCU 2 Star award in the appropriate paddling
discipline.
-
Hold the BCU Lifeguards Canoeing Safety Test in the appropriate
discipline.
-
Have the recommendation of a Grade 1 Canoe Examiner or
ASO(Canoeing).
-
Have the approval and recommendation of the cadet’s C.O. /
O.I.C. who must be satisfied that there is a requirement for an
Assistant Canoe Supervisor in the Unit and that the cadet is
sufficiently mature to undertake the role and who will ensure
that the cadet is ONLY allowed to operate as an assistant to a
qualified adult who is also on the water.
Holding this qualification allows Cadets to supervise up to 3 other
paddlers on the water in the appropriate paddling craft. However,
Cadets are not allowed to supervise other Cadets on the water on
their own, they must always be under the supervision of an adult SCC
or BCU Supervisor/Coach. The supervising adult must also be afloat
to carry out this duty.
This qualification allows the Cadet to qualify for 5 promotion
points, and also entitles the Cadet to wear the fourth grade canoe
badge (Canoe, Paddle and Laurel Wreath). The badge is awarded by
Commanding Officers to holders of this award.
Cadets who hold a BCU Level 1 Coach may apply to ASO - Canoes for
the SCC Grade 4. This will normally entail a small training period
(approximately 2 hours) to discuss SCC topics which will not have
been covered in the BCU Course.
